Day Pass or a GB pack: which travel eSIM to buy

A GB pack is a total for the trip. A Day Pass gives 3 GB at full speed every day, then keeps you online at 1 Mbps until it resets.

Updated 6 October 2026

The two kinds

  • GB pack: a fixed amount, for example 5 GB for 30 days. Use it fast or slowly; when it is gone, top up or buy another.
  • Day Pass: you pick the days. Each day the first 3 GB run at full speed, then the line stays on at 1 Mbps until the allowance resets, about every 24 hours. We never call it unlimited, because it is not.

What 1 Mbps still does

Zoom lists 60 to 100 kbps for a voice call and 600 kbps for a high-quality one-to-one video call, so maps, messages, mail and calls keep working after the daily 3 GB. HD video (1.2 Mbps and up) and big uploads wait for the next day's full speed.

Other shops sell the same kind of plan as "unlimited". Airalo's own fair use policy says full speed stops after 3 GB a day and drops to 1 Mbps, which is what our Day Pass says on the label.
