Install the eSIM

iOS 17.4+: tap Add eSIM on the ticket. Android too. QR is the backup. Do this on Wi-Fi, then roam after you land.

Browser cannot see the phoneIf Add eSIM is missing, or *#06# has no EID, do not buy when sales open. Mainland China iPhones and some Hong Kong / Macao models have no eSIM — Airalo’s compatibility page says the same. Apple Watch cannot take this QR — Airalo and Holafly say the same; the Watch can still use the iPhone over Bluetooth. A cellular iPad with Add eSIM can; Wi-Fi-only cannot. Many Xiaomi, Oppo, Motorola, and Huawei phones work if Add eSIM is in Settings — this list is typical, not certified.

When sales open, do not buy until every box is marked from the phone in your hand.

  1. 01 · iPhone

    Tap Add eSIM

    After payment, the ticket and the live mail have Add eSIM · iPhone. iOS 17.4+ opens the system installer in one tap. No InboxSIM app. Stay on Wi-Fi. Turn VPN off until the profile is on the phone. Sample mail is not a live profile — the tap is on a paid ticket.

    Same tap, Android

    Add eSIM · Android on the ticket uses Google’s eSIM setup page (Play services 25.14.34+). If Add eSIM is missing in Settings, the phone or the carrier lock cannot take one. Mainland China iPhones, and some Hong Kong / Macao models, have no Add eSIM even when unlocked.

    QR and SM-DP+ are the backup

    If the tap fails: point the camera at the QR, or type the SM-DP+ address and activation code from the ticket. Print the QR if you want a paper copy.

    Land, then roam

    Turn on the InboxSIM line and Data roaming on that line. In Cellular Data (or Mobile Service), pick InboxSIM, not the home SIM. Turn Allow Cellular Data Switching off — Airalo’s iOS access guide says the same. On the home line: Cellular Data off, and Data Roaming off (Settings → Cellular or Mobile Service → the home plan). Android cannot turn roaming off per SIM — turn the home SIM off instead, or you pay home roaming. WhatsApp, iMessage, and FaceTime stay on the home number: Settings → Messages / FaceTime → Send & Receive = home line. Turn Send as SMS off so a failed iMessage does not bill as roaming SMS. Default Voice Line = home (Settings → Cellular). Turn Wi-Fi Assist off so weak hotel Wi-Fi does not burn travel GB — or home roaming if Switching is still on. Rename the line InboxSIM in Cellular so you do not tap the home SIM for data. This profile cannot move to a second phone. Most packs start on first attach to a covered network. The country page says if this one starts when you install.

    Leave APN on Automatic

    The profile brings its own APN. Do not type a name unless the mail says one. If hotspot will not share, that same name goes in Personal Hotspot APN; leave user and password blank. If data will not attach after roaming is on, toggle the InboxSIM line off and on once.

  6. 06

    After the trip

    GB or days gone, and the plan has no top-up? Delete the line: Settings → Cellular → the InboxSIM plan → Remove. That frees the eSIM slot. Do not delete mid-trip.
