Before you land in Chile
Our Chile plan uses WOM, one of Chile's four networks, with 4G and 5G in Santiago and the other cities. In Patagonia and the far north, signal from any network can fade fast once you leave town, so download offline maps before long drives and treks.
6 things to know, each with its source
- Chile's four networks are Entel (33.3% of mobile lines), Movistar (22.6%), WOM (21.6%) and Claro (20.8%), September 2025 Subtel data. Forbes Chile, citing Subtel
- A foreign phone used only on roaming or Wi-Fi does not need Chile's Multibanda phone registration; on a Chilean SIM, an unregistered foreign phone works for 30 days on the network and is then blocked. Multibanda (Subtel registration site)
- Since February 4, 2025, a new prepaid line in Chile must be verified with a Chilean ID or a passport (Subtel Resolution 566 of 2024). WOM
- WOM is still switching on service in 366 remote localities under its deal with Subtel: 90% by September 30, 2026 and the rest by December 31, 2026. TeleSemana
- In Torres del Paine, the Explora lodge says neither the hotel nor the surrounding area has cell phone signal. Explora
- Santiago airport Wi-Fi is free with no data limit; you reconnect every 30 minutes. Nuevo Pudahuel (Santiago airport)
Questions
What is the best eSIM for Chile?
For most trips, 5 GB for 30 days is enough: $11.90 here, against $15.50 at Airalo for the same data (read 31 Oct 2026). It is data only and needs no app: the QR code and a one-tap install link arrive by email. Every brand's price for Chile, dated and sourced, is on our comparison page.
Which Chile eSIM for a month?
Every one of these lasts 30 days: 3 GB $7.49, 5 GB $11.90, 10 GB $21.90, 20 GB $37.90. The 30 days start when the eSIM first connects to a network there, so you can buy before the trip.
Can I buy a Chile eSIM without an app?
Yes. You pay on this page and the QR code and a one-tap install link arrive by email: no app and no account. It is data only, with no phone number, so your home SIM keeps your calls and SMS.
Does the Chile eSIM come with a phone number?
No. It is data only: no local number, calls or SMS on this eSIM. Your home SIM stays in the phone for calls and texts (your carrier's roaming rates apply to them), and WhatsApp, FaceTime or Signal calls run over the eSIM's data. If you need a local number in Chile, for example for a service that texts a code, buy a local SIM there.
Which Chile eSIM for a week or two?
For 7 days: 1 GB $3.69. The 30-day packs cover one or two weeks too: 3 GB $7.49, 5 GB $11.90.
Will WhatsApp keep my number with a Chile eSIM?
Yes. WhatsApp stays on your home number: this eSIM is data only and has no number. Leave your home SIM in the phone with its data roaming off, use the Chile eSIM for mobile data, and do not re-register WhatsApp.
11 more questions
Is a Chile eSIM cheaper than roaming?
Usually, for a trip of more than a day or two. US carriers charge $12 a day for roaming (AT&T International Day Pass, Verizon TravelPass, read 31 Oct 2026) where they cover Chile, so a week costs $84. Here 5 GB for 30 days is $11.90 in total.
How much is the Chile eSIM?
From $3.69 in USD, and the price on this page is the price you pay. Sizes run from the 1 GB pack up; pick one in the list above.
When does the Chile plan start?
First attach to a covered network. Install on Wi-Fi before you fly. After you land, turn data roaming on for this line.

Which networks in Chile?
movistar + CLARO CL. Your phone joins whichever of these is strongest where you are.

Automatic unless the QR mail names one
Can I use this Chile eSIM in another country?

What if I buy the wrong plan?
