Before you land in Turkey
Turkey's phone registration rule worries many visitors. It is about phones on Turkish SIMs and long stays; the details are below.
- A phone brought from abroad and used with a Turkish operator's SIM must be IMEI-registered within 120 days of entry, or it is cut off. BTK
- The rule also covers 'permanent roaming': a foreign SIM used over 90 days within 120 days without calls. A normal trip on a roaming travel eSIM is in neither group, by our reading of the regulation. IMEI regulation
- 5G service started on 1 April 2026 in every provincial centre. BTK
